An interesting opportunity has come our way. A friend of my mom's works for the USO and has been working on getting books and a cd of the books read by a deployed military member to go to their children. It's an effort to keep the child connected with their parent while their parent are deployed. But, my mom's friend felt that there was something missing. So, my mom shared with her the story of our Daddy Bear. We had Daddy bear made with a recording of Reed's voice before his first deployment. Daddy bear sleeps with Anna most nights but definitely on the nights when he is gone. I often hear her press the voice activator and smile or cry depending on how badly I miss him while he's gone. It was obvious to my mom's friend that this is what's missing from the program. My mom's friend is now on a mission to get bears for all kids of parents who are deployed along with a book and that book being read by that parent. They are working with Build-A-Bear and trying to get sponsors to fund the bears. And, guess whose picture she is using to help get funding for these bears? That's right, our Anna... and Reed too! How neat! I'm so glad that we can help even if its just a little by providing pictures and a story to go along with it.
